Maurice 2011
this trip had many of my firsts =D. 1st trip going alone, 1st time going on a holiday for the longest period, 1st time using my expenses for everything and alot more other 1st times when it comes to almost ALL of the activities! woohoo!
the weather’s cool in the morning and night, the sunsets are beautiful, seen rainbows, star-gazed, felt the soft melting sand beneath my feet, view fishes & corals under the clear blue waters; these are some of the ‘nature’ moments that we all savoured and cherished during the trip =D.
As i write this post, feelings of nostalgia creep into me..
lots of other firsts: mountain climbing, trek down a volcano (this btw is my most hated in the list; ain’t no good testimonial coming from this activity =P), snorkelling, sailing on a cruise to a small island, quad-biking, buoys, zip-line, absail down cliff/waterfall, visiting Club Med (ATAS i like!) and many many more….
although climbing mountains is not my favourite pastime, the feeling of wafting through those pink pretty flowers at Le Pouce mountain, standing at different pit stops to snap pictures and finally reaching the narrow summit to catch the panoramic view of Mauritius, it seems worth it omg. Not to mention I felt such a sense of accomplishment when I managed to climb up and down the steep rocks/slopes OMG.
the sea activities were just as awesome too! unfortunately when we para-sailed, it was raining and we were shivering but it was a lovely experience. Buoys were fun because the Mauritians were trying to throw us off our buoys but we held so tightly and with the huge choppy waves they made, you can feel the adrenaline rush at times. Snorkelling was more or less peaceful for me except for the part when I thought I almost died because I couldn’t swim with my flippers LOL.the guy had to yank it out of my feet. it also seemed my life jacket wasn’t tight enough which was why I had this feeling that I was almost drowning. huge embarrassment and I wished I had more time getting used to the apparatus.
oOh and the canyoning trip was surprisingly a pleasant experience! We absailed down a shorter cliff with waterfall, trek to another cliff and absailed down another cliff, followed by ziplining across to the other side. Went on a zipline 3 times because it was so fun and because I try to perfect it each time I go =D!
Quad biking was slow but we took time to enjoy the nature, the deers, banyan trees, pepper trees and a citron tree that is used to make mosquito repellent. The boss drove us back in his pickup. The girls sat at the back and we went on a star-gazing feast with the cool breeze brushing past our hair and cheeks. I thought the sky was at its most beautiful that night.
The Catamaran cruise was actually one of the things I initially looked forward to before I get on this trip. But now it paled in comparison to the above. It’s awesome venturing out to sea and riding on choppy waves but sad to say, I only saw a dolphin flipper. LOL tough luck. But there’s this Avatar-looking cliff in the middle of the ocean, with seagulls circling around. What a sight. When we reached the Gabriel island, we had one of the most relaxing lunches ever. honestly a great chillax day.
Another chillax day would be during the free and easy trip we planned to go to Club Med all the way up North to enjoy the tai-tai life. Time was short but we managed to kayak, play beach volleyball, some last min archery, grab a few drinks and an ATAS buffet lunch. ooh la la.some of my frens even enjoyed teabreaks before we hurriedly left for the airport. It was the last day to wrap off our Mauritian life.
by then you might’ve realised i’m missing the volcano out of the whole experience hahaha. i’m now a trek-down-volcano anti fan yucks. alright I shall write something about it. The path was narrow, the ground was getting wet and muddy, i wore the wrong shoes and wrong attire, I slipped a few times to my horror so I grabbed thorny branches. We stumbled into bees and weird insects + mosquitoes. We had to use ropes to climb up/down a rather slippery slope. When we finally reached the crater, we couldn’t see anything and when we trekked back, it started to rain. 1/3 of the time I was practically screaming. This is why I’m an anti-fan ahahha. Maybe one good thing that came out of it was that I learnt my lesson about trekking and keeping calm and cool. I’m also glad I had friends who were stronger/ stronger willpower than me to keep me going. Couldn’t imagine how I got myself into this. I came out looking like I just fought a war omg. But still…it’s a memory nonetheless =)
Not to mention the people and my companions made this trip a well-loved one! The people were generally friendly and they love to talk about their family and what they do. They love to share =). My trip mates were a bunch of lame, funny and spontaneous people. They’re people who love to perform silly actions, make silly jokes and tell lies half the time hahaha. The bonding moments I felt were during Sega dance, the time outside the mall when we danced to the music @ the mini amusement park, the Survivor/ pirates game we played and brief moments on the bus and maybe during card games lol. Or maybe when we’re little drunk/ high, we felt closer together lol.
Now looking back at the past 2 weeks, they seem to fly by so quickly. Before the trip, I had reminded myself to really stop and enjoy every single moment I could. But due to the hustle and excitement coming from those tiring activities (and I was very concerned with my own safety lols!), I kinda forgot to stand back, pause and think. There were that few brief moments and those were wonderful moments albeit sad at the same time. Because when you realize you’re reflecting, you know you’re approaching the end of the trip. That’s the sad part =(. Wouldn’t say I wish I could do more (I still have phobia of slipping, tripping/ falling) but would’ve wanted time to last longer, so much so I could get so sick of it and come back. But it never did. Lasting memories are only lasting if they’re made short and sweet, aren’t they?
i went to RWS finally
yes imma cuckoo. But it was a dreary day for RWS. there wasn’t much hype cos it was raining. It’s as if RWS wasn’t opened for business/ rather wasn’t enjoying much business. It turns out people were stuck at a few places: casino, vivo boardwalk, candylicious LOL. Can you imagine? Candylicious had so many people inside and it was heaven being there, squealing over the cute inventions. And the weather was cooling which made walking outdoors really delightful.
anyhow, we went to see the Valentino, Retrospective exhibition! first time being able to see (and admire) up close. Some of the dresses were amazing; not just by design but by the handiwork that went into creating these masterpieces. I mean millions of sequins and different coloured fabrics woven into a dress? it was absolutely stunning. It was also quite cool to see dresses created in the 1960s and 1980s. Some of the pieces were truly timeless oh wow. Who would have thought a strapless red cocktail gown was made for the 1960s crowd?
So this time we had our weapons, i mean cameras ready. Thanks for the polaroid, JY! Stay tuned for exciting snapshots in FB~
a mini update
on the current dramas i’m watching.
I guess the start of 2011’s a pretty much good year for kdramas^^.
end of 2010 was a drag. there wasn’t any noteworthy shows. Sad to say tho i’m a fan of Jang Geun Suk, his drama’s slightly disappointing. Sungkyunkwan Scandal was the highlight for me but that was all it.
But Jan 2011 has been a great drama month! Secret Garden got more and more interesting! I felt the last few eps were its saving grace. Still catching up on Athena there and then. New hits such as Dream High and My Princess were awesome! In fact I look forward to my weeknights after a long day at work thanks to these dramas! 한국 드라마 때무애 밤애 기분이 너무 좋아요!
supposed to be catching up on sleep.
but i decided to do a short lil post here.
aloy finally came back! AND HEY he didn’t talk much about himself this time (lol another excuse to arrange another outing again~ RWS anyone?)
we ate @ Sarang. cos it was a place Cheryl had been raving about & the reviews seem quite Ok. I think the atmosphere is great (cos they played so many kpop songs ^^) but talking was difficult. food was ok. it’s the experience of eating @ L7 outdoors under the night sky that makes it different.
Singapore should’ve more (less ex) chillout places apart from like Starbucks. All the shops close so early, there’s hardly any sitting area. But I realize Orchard Central can be quite a great chillout place since the things there are ex (so people don’t swarm in like in 313) and the environment seems very nice and comforting.
Anyways we talked about a lot of things, mainly updates from what we’ve been up to so far. It’s nice catching up with friends because we’re all coming from different walks of life. it also helps you see matters in different perspectives. it’s also strange like what aloy said that we’re no longer talking about school work/ NUS in a matter of months??? not sure if it’s a sad/bad thing. perhaps it’s great that we’re all moving on and that we now have a different sort of life to lead and our own worries.
it’s nice to have friends to address your worries & concerns and give you opinions on how they view things. or simply friends whom you can rant to.
and i found that through my friends, i’ve become a different person in terms of maturity and how much i’ve grown in these few months, kudos to my working life. AND NOT like what Aloy said that i’ve went for makeover LOL & suddenly, I became a new friend to him. wait till i dye my hair purple =X i’m so not going to do that.
SO JIANWEI, you should be a police woman! hahahah. no lar i think we’re too skeptical of what jw is doing right now. so maybe she should prove us wrong/ find a different path. after all, we’re all still searching for our identities.
not quite yet settled down.
Imma zombie.
… i only blog because i’m bored/ i desperately want to say smth out for everyone to hear.
Currently catching up with _ dramas: Secret Garden, Mary Stayed Out All Night, Facemaker, Gossip Girl, Vampire Diaries, The Walking Dead…
BUT i dunno what’s going on! 3 out of the 6 dramas do not have episodes this week (and even the next T.T).
Btw if I have to recommend (out of these 6), i will say The Walking Dead is most watchable (Zombies aren’t even an enticing group in the 1st place). Yes yes we do have enough of the zombified series (dawn of the dead, jennifer’s body & of course Resident Evil).OMG how much difference does it make? I went on with that mentality when I caught the first episode of the show (becos i was bored and i hadn’t had anything else to watch then). However, by the end of the 1st ep, I decided I’ve gotta watch the 2nd one and the 3rd and the 4th…
Touted as the zombie version of LOST. We have a small group of survivors residing @ some faraway hill. Trying to live among zombies is already tough, trying to live with people who don’t agree with you is just as bad. The plus point of this drama series gradually makes you feel the ‘reality’ of the situation and not simply a show that delivers pure action blood and gore (tt’s the usual zombie shows, i presume.)
of course the reason is always weak: virus, epidemic. In this drama, it’s even more vague. Because not much was dwelt upon how it exactly happened. It just happened and the main character (and us) would just have to deal with that (seems like Resident Evil too hmm)…what happens next? how can he go on from here?
Watch it if you love zombies/ supernatural dramas/ bored/ don’t mind blood and gore.
kpop nite 2010
was crazyyyy. EVERYONE WENT CRAZY LOLS, including me! the things we did to get a better view & closer to our idols~~
a few regrets on my part: should’ve brought cheryl’s other vid cam..but then i doubt i can take nice shots cos I had wobbly hands and i was on tip toe half the time oh wells!
2nd. should’ve queued to the death to get the standing pit tixs. anything other than standing pit and 1st few rows cat 1 are USELESS. rawrrrrr. i wonder how pple are satisfied going to concerts buying the cheaper few cats. perhaps not for k-pop because there’s no sitting moment and u’re nt there simply to listen. u need visuals too and for visuals, u need front seats/ good pair of binoculars (still people will block u).
BUT IT WAS GREAT SOAKING UP ALL THE ENERGY. FT Island was awesomeeee. Hongki looks so hot and I’m glad dey one of the few who didn’t lip-sync. D-NA’s dance was sexy!! Infinite and ZE:A had a few catchy songs that are worth downloading lols. SHINee was cute but with jonghyun missing, there’re gaps here and there. I made I screamed everytime minho did his rap heee. SNSD was 1 group I could hardly see a thing because all the screaming fanboys were already jumping, holding their cameras and finding ways to stand even higher on their chairs. Big Bang was SO COOL. i dunno why. i guess it’s the chemistry and how they bring the atmosphere much crazier than it has already been. could see GD’s orange head bobbing here and there and Taeyang’s smooth movesss. AND THEY SANG SO MANY SONGS..was so glad.
wonder if anyone would be interested in suju/ u kiss’s concerts?! gahhhh. it’s either top cat tix or no go the next few times~!

so cute. I’m definitely doing this in class tomorrow
